For the University of Memphis Contemporary Chamber Players

to really be/ from Somewhere is the story of yearning for an anchor in a world governed by uncertainty, movement, and organized chaos. As a testament to our inherently unmoored lives governed by precarity and unstoppable market deterioration, this work relentlessly reminds the subject that they are fundamentally out of place. Through pulsating textures, organized improvisation, and straining instrumental extremes, this piece puts the mindset of instability, anxiety, and nebulous identity directly into the foreground.
